Job scams have become one of the most common forms of online fraud in India, and job seekers in Gujarat are no exception. Scammers target freshers, people who have recently lost a job and anyone looking for work-from-home income. They use real company names, convincing offer letters and friendly WhatsApp messages. The good news is that almost every scam shares a few warning signs. Once you know them, they are easy to spot.
- Genuine employers and agencies do not charge candidates to get a job.
- Task jobs on Telegram, upfront fees and OTP requests are classic warning signs.
- If you have paid, call 1930 and report at cybercrime.gov.in straight away.
The golden rule: you should not pay to get a job
Genuine employers pay you. They do not ask you to pay for registration, interviews, training kits, uniforms, "security deposits", background checks or offer letters. Genuine recruitment agencies are paid by the employer, not by the candidate. At Job Vista, applying for jobs and placement are always free. Job Vista never charges for jobs or placement.
If anyone asks you for money to get a job, stop and verify before doing anything else.
Common job scams in Gujarat and across India
1. Registration or "processing" fee scams
You receive a call or message saying you have been shortlisted for a job at a well-known company. To confirm your interview or offer, you must pay a fee. After you pay, there is another fee, and then the contact disappears.
2. Task-based and "like and earn" scams
A message on WhatsApp or Telegram offers easy money for liking videos, rating products or reviewing hotels. You receive small payments at first to build trust. Then you are asked to "invest" or "recharge" to get bigger tasks, and the money you put in is never returned.
3. Fake work-from-home data entry jobs
Offers of high pay for typing, form-filling or copy-paste work, often with a "registration kit" fee or a contract that later claims you owe a penalty for errors.
4. Fake offer letters
You receive an official-looking offer letter, sometimes using the name and logo of a real company, without any real interview. It may ask for a fee for "documentation", or for your bank details and identity documents, which can then be misused.
5. Overseas job scams
Promises of jobs abroad with high salaries and quick visas, in return for large upfront payments for processing, medicals or tickets. Genuine overseas recruitment in India must go through recruiting agents registered under the Emigration Act; check registration on the government's eMigrate portal before dealing with any agent.
6. OTP, KYC and remote-access tricks
A so-called HR executive asks you to share an OTP, install a screen-sharing app or "verify" your bank account by sending a small amount. These are attempts to access your money directly.

Warning signs to watch for
- Any request for money at any stage of hiring.
- An offer without a proper interview, or an interview held only over chat.
- Salary that seems far too high for the work or your experience.
- Pressure to decide or pay immediately, or to keep the offer secret.
- Contact only through WhatsApp, Telegram or a personal mobile number, with no landline or office address.
- Emails from free email services instead of a company domain.
- Spelling mistakes, mismatched logos or vague details about the role and location.
- Requests for OTPs, UPI PINs, card details or remote access to your phone.
Job Vista never charges a fee to get you a job. Applying, placement and career guidance are always free.
How to verify an employer or recruiter
- Search the company name along with words like "fraud" or "review" and check whether the contact details match the company's official website.
- Call the company's official number from its website, not the number that contacted you, and ask whether the opening is real.
- Check the address. A genuine business has an office you can visit. If it is in your city, go in person.
- Look at the email domain. Real recruiters usually write from the company's own domain.
- Ask for details: the job title, location, salary, reporting manager and interview process. Scammers often avoid specifics.
- Talk to someone you trust before sharing documents or paying anything.
